Birmingham City face a huge game against fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
It is set to be a crucial few weeks for Birmingham City in the Championship.
The Blues made an excellent start to the season, but the club made the controversial decision to replace John Eustace with Wayne Rooney in October, despite sitting in the play-off places at the time, and it is fair to say the move did not work out.
Rooney was sacked in January after winning just two of his 15 games in charge, and his successor, Tony Mowbray, made a strong start to life in the role, but he stepped down temporarily in February due to health reasons.
Mark Venus initially took caretaker charge in Mowbray’s absence, but after just one point from six games under his guidance, Birmingham brought former manager Gary Rowett back as interim head coach last month.
The Blues’ form has improved under Rowett, but they remain in serious relegation danger after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Rotherham United at the New York Stadium on Saturday.
Birmingham thought they had won the game in the second half when Jay Stansfield fired home, but the goal was ruled out for offside, and it was a big missed opportunity to pick up all three points against the already-relegated Millers.
The dropped points became even more costly when Sheffield Wednesday won 3-1 at Blackburn Rovers on Sunday, meaning the Blues are now in the relegation zone.
Birmingham currently sit 22nd in the table, one point from safety, and they face a huge game against the team directly below them, Huddersfield Town, at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.
