After Nick Saban announced his retirement from the Alabama Crimson Tide, everyone’s thoughts quickly turned to Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian.
Having served as Nick Saban’s offensive coordinator for the previous two seasons in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 2019 and 2020, Sarkisian was an obvious choice to take over for the Tide.
Sark, though, is currently enjoying success in Austin, Texas, where he plays for the Longhorns. There, he defeated Alabama on the road in the previous season and made it to the College Football Playoffs.
Additionally, Sarkisian stated it didn’t take him long to decline Alabama’s invitation to take over as head coach, given that Texas’ move to the SEC would allow them to attract even more elite prospects and get visibility in the national media. It really only took him sixty seconds.
Sarkisian told ESPN, “Naturally, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think about it.” However, it only took me about sixty seconds to decide that, “Yeah, I’m not doing that.” Although I had a great two years at Alabama and enjoyed working with Coach Saban, in the end, you have to reap what you sow.”
Kalen DeBoer, a former head coach of the Washington Huskies, was hired by Alabama to replace Nick Saban.
